This three-story house is located in the famed Historical District, just minutes from the Seawall and the Strand. Built in 1914, it holds significant history, originally constructed for an attorney who was the main counsel and controller for John Charles League. League, a prominent land developer and financier, developed what is now League City.
Envision the influential conversations, deals, and events that took place within these walls and across the street at League’s ‘castle.’ Imagine the grandeur of early 20th-century parties held here. This period marked the beginning of WWI, the introduction of the assembly line by Henry Ford, the first commercial airline flight, the opening of Wrigley Field, Babe Ruth’s debut, and the establishment of the Federal Reserve Bank.
Living here meant no electricity, no modern conveniences, and a lifestyle vastly different from today. Growing up in this house, I now fully appreciate its historical significance. Late at night on the front porch, you can almost see the horse-drawn carriages and well-dressed couples from a bygone era. This house, built for a key figure of the island, continues to be a testament to its rich history, which I am dedicated to preserving.
